MATHEMATICS CURRICULUM

 

·         Sort  (by color, by shape, by size)  Sorting consists of one criteria.

 

·         Classify  (by color, by shape, by shape and color)  Classifying is more complicated

 

Examples  :  Place all the non-blue beads in one bin.  Place all the blue beads in another bin.

 

                           Place all the round shapes in one box, all the non-round shapes in          

                           another box.

 

                           Place all the blue beads and the round shapes together; place all the

                           non-blue beads with the non-round shapes.

 

                           All present children; all absent children

 

·         Order:       by size, shape, color 

                          Examples:   Using beads, unifix cubes, bears, etc..

                          Lace in order of red, white blue bead.

                          Position one triangle, followed by one circle, followed by one square.

                          Lace one large bead, followed by a small bead, etc…

                          Place all pencils in one box, all crayons, in another box, all magic        

                          markers in another. Eventual ordering of ordinal numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6

                          Ordering of cardinal numbers - First, second, third, fourth

 

·         One to one correspondence:  Day to day situations such as :

                        Setting the table- 1 cup  to each plate

                                                      1 car per garage

                                                     

 Also read books such as the 5 Billy Goat Gruffs,  Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, The Three Bears.

 

        Sing songs such as   Three Little Ducks

                                             One, little two, little three

        Dance (with one partner), with two partners, etc.

 

        Calendar- Days of the week, Date

    Beginning addition, subtraction
